MY STORY

Hello!

MY NAME IS KARA

First off I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit my SHOP!

Secondly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Kara… (Car-uh) I’ve had my name mispronounced pretty much since birth.  Speaking of birth, I was born and raised in Buffalo NY.  I also graduated with my Bachelors in Business Management from Buffalo State College. My ultimate goal coming out of my school career was to have an understanding on how to run a business.

With all my new found knowledge I was ready to conquer the world!  Well easier said than done. There was still A LOT I had to figure out.  I knew I wanted to own and run my own business but the biggest question was "what?" I was out to face the world with a diploma in hand with not the slightest clue of what to do next. For years I continued to serve at a restaurant. When people asked me what my life plan was all I could answer with was, “I don’t know.”

I continued doing the same thing every day, serving to pay my bills. It almost felt like I was on autopilot.  It was the same thing just a new day. My days began to just blend together. I knew I needed a change but again the question was “what do I do?”

I can tell you what I did a lot of though, a lot of pinning on Pinterest! You know, pinning things that I planned on making on a later date, but actually never doing. So finally I actually took one of my pins to action! I found a picture of a Chevron Wall which I absolutely fell in love with. I decided that I was just going to go out and buy the supplies and just do it. After about 5 rolls of tape… and the better part of 2 days, my chevron wall was finally complete! I stepped back and looked at it and felt accomplished that I was able to pull it off.

People saw my wall and began asking me to create different wall designs for them. The more I did, the more my love for painting and designing grew. I loved looking at a blank wall and envisioning a piece and making it a reality. The reactions I received from people once I was done, made my heart feel whole. I realized I found what I was meant to do. I was meant to create.

In June 2016 I was very unhappy with where I was. I felt like I was at a standstill in life and with my job. I dreaded going every day and felt like I was meant to do so much more.

I met a man in February 2016, that I did not realized at the time what an impact he would have on my life. After every wall project that I had completed the support and positivity that I got from him was like no other. One of the best feelings in the world is having someone believe in you. One night I was telling him how unhappy I was at my current job and how I rather be painting and doing something I actually love. To that he replied “so do it.” He told me to just quit my job and go for it. To that I replied “I can’t just quit my job!” The following thing he said is what changed everything. He said life was too short and that I should take a chance. That I would never know if I didn’t take a chance. I listened to him. The very next day I quit my job and began working on creating my painting business. It was the best decision I ever made. I would have never made that decision if he had not pushed me and instilled belief in myself as well.

It was scary at first I’m not going to lie. I didn’t sleep for several nights because I am the type of person that needs an answer for EVERYTHING. Sometimes there isn't a clear answer for things and you just have to reach out into the unknown and just go for it.

“To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.” –Joseph Chilton Pearce.

I first started off painting wall murals, which I thought my business was going to be entirely about. I had no idea that my business would take a turn towards designing custom signs.

The turning point in business was when I wanted to tell my boyfriend that I loved him in a unique way.  I did it by hand painting a sign that said “In you, I have found the love of my life and my best friend.”  After giving the sign to him I said that it was my way of telling him that I loved him. He had shared a photo of it and people began asking me to create pieces for them. The more I created for people the more people I reached and it ended up blowing up more than I ever thought it would.

The heart of my first sign was love. I like to think that is what my business signifies and was grown from. My love for what I do.

I now spend my time designing custom pieces that tell a story in every home. I love waking up every day doing exactly what I love to do, which is to CREATE. Every order I receive I take as a personal compliment. Know that your interest and support in my business is what keeps me pushing to strive for better.
